Program: Microbiology and Molecular Genetics
Faculty Advisor: Anice Lowen, PhD

Madaline completed her B.S. in microbiology in 2021 and her MPH in 2022 from the University of Vermont. Post graduation, she had a position as a laboratory technician working on SARS-CoV-2 and influenza virus. She started her PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Emory University in 2023 and joined Dr. Anice Lowen’s lab. In the Lowen lab, Madaline’s project focuses on the dynamics of influenza A virus infection in mallards and swine. This work aims to obtain insight into how virus strains with pandemic potential may arise through identifying the evolutionary forces shaping viral population expansion within non-human animal hosts.
